Faux Leather Paradiso Market Bag!

 I am on a quest!

I am working on making samples all my bag patterns with Faux Leather!

These are the materials I decided to use to make:

A Faux Leather Market Bag Bundle!!

Faux Leather August ends at midnight tomorrow night!

20% off all Faux Leather!                                                                      I have another deal cooking here since I am SO happy with how this bag came out!

If you order the FL Market Bag Bundle here (all hardware and FL 20% off),                           I will throw in the Market Bag Pattern for free.

Here are the mods I made to the FL Market Bag:

Use my strap technique to sew straps, and the strap cut is a different dimension too.

Please closely follow how wide to cut strap pieces as the pattern is for sewing straps with canvas!

To make a lining for the bag I decided to add stabilizer to the lining....MUCH easier to sew!

The lining is cut the same dimensions as the Market bag body, minus 1/2" in length.

As seen above, bag body lining has:

Lining fabric + Fleece Stabilizer (Bosal) + Muslin backing.   Many people may think this is overkill, but I have found this is such a supportive layering system.  Normally the fleece + muslin is done with the FL, but I added it to the lining to make it easier to sew, rather then add to FL.  When I have these layer gently (this method does not require many pins to hold it together) pinned together to act as one piece.

Then you add the pockets:

2 @ 10" strips that are sewn together at the bottom, then flipped and iron a fold at the seam...but one other detail:

If you look very closely at the bottom of the pocket I ironed it so that 1/8" of the backing fabric shows to create a faux piping. Then trim the top of the pocket even! Just a fun tip

The pocket top trim is made from a 2" WOF strip as in the following pics!

First iron strip in half as shown.  Then for each side (only one at a time to preserve the first fold ironed) fold a raw edge into the center fold and iron, then repeat for the other side!

The result is what I call a trim cap!  I use it to cap raw edges, like the top of the pocket here!

I also cut the pockets like an inch or so wider then the bag body to accomadate fabric stetching from ironing and cutting!
Once the pocket is sewn into place, then trim the excess!

One last tip to reduce bulk, I put pockets on both sides of the lining,
I place one set of pockets 1/2" lower so the pocket tops are staggered. And, bonus, it creates a slight difference to help remember where certain bag items are kept!

I made a trim cap for the bag facing!

Adding to the facing...

Adding facing to the bag body!

For such a nice finish!
